  •     How do I get the best sound quality on my dictation?

Whether using the telephone to dictate or a digital recording device the following will help:–

1. Be aware of ambient noise. We quickly become “habituated” – unconscious of the rumble of traffic, the chatter and clatter of the restaurant, the distant tannoy in the airport building. The mic in your telephone or device will pick a lot of it up, and that makes life hard for the typist working on your paper. Try to find a quiet spot (where you’ll be more relaxed anyway – and do a better dictation…)

2. If using a telephone, speak into the phone. If you hold the earpiece snugly against your ear, your voice will go into the mic the way the telephone engineers designed it.

3. Repeat the bits you’re not sure about. If there is a sudden noise, or if you have to turn away in the middle of a sentence, then say: “I’ll give you that last bit again in case you missed it…”
Your typist will understand what is going on and give you a much better service.
